NEWS RELEASE
Bill
French,
Principal for Colliers Turley Martin Tucker of
Indianapolis, will handle the leasing for Lantern Commons on
behalf of Pine Tree.
According to
Pine Tree founding partner Barry Herring, the
firm’s main goal while developing the retail is to retain as
much of the natural trees and wetlands as possible. “The site is
on a rugged, uneven tract of woods,” says Herring. “But our
concept in shaping it for pedestrians is to capture the natural
beauty of the site by preserving and enhancing the natural
stream as a primary amenity.” In addition, he says that the
“wooded feel” of the site will be preserved with abundant stands
of native trees, landscaped walkways and waterfalls.
“Some of the
trees will need to be displaced, and we’re looking at ideas such
as possibly transplanting some of them to Westfield parks.”
Herring, an Indianapolis resident and self-professed
preservationist at heart, considers Lantern Commons a pet
project. “We want this center to complement the surrounding
scenery, not detract from it. That’s as important as the right
kind of retail tenant,” he says.
New Step for
a New City
From an
economic standpoint, Herring says that the company foresees
Lantern Commons filling the needs of both the region and the
community. First of all, Hamilton County, north of
Indianapolis’s Marion County, is one of the fastest growing
counties in the state, with Westfield located in the heart of
that growth. “We envision this to be a premier retail/commercial
development that will be considered a regional destination,” he
says. “That will not only add to the local property tax base and
other town revenues, but will also encourage the growth of
surrounding development and business.”
“The
Westfield Town Council is working extremely hard to present
quality products to the community and we are excited about this
extraordinary opportunity,” says Andy Cook, Westfield
Town Council President. “We feel encouraged that the community
will get involved in the consideration of this project in the
upcoming months,” says Cook.
“This is a
very exciting time for the Town of Westfield,” Pine Tree’s
Herring summarizes. “In January, the town will officially become
a city, and we’re proud to be part of the growth involved in
that new designation. To us, making Lantern Commons a true
public-private partnership will be the best way to serve this
growth.”
